Bruins Complete Blue & Gold Week Donation Challenge

The Bruins successfully completed The Blue & Gold Week challenge that we blogged about last week. Approximately 1,295 Bruins gave money to the UCLA Fund, surpassing the fund’s target of 1,117 donors.

UCLA Fund Chair Roger Tomalas, Class of ’69, will stick to his promise of donating $50,000 to UCLA. He plans to allocate $5,000 to support UCLA libraries and $45,000 to Chancellor’s Greatest Needs, the only campus-wide discretionary fund.

In the past, Chancellor’s Greatest Needs has launched programs like Freshman General Education Clusters, Volunteer Day and Fiat Lux, and the fund continually supports research funding, faculty recruitment and undergraduate curriculum development, said Stacey Capoot, assistant director of Student Giving at UCLA.

The fund is still calculating the total amount of donation money, but estimates say donations exceeded the initial goal by 16 percent.

Students gifts comprised about 12% of the donations, Capoot said.
